Places I've been (part 3)....

St. Martin-in-the-Fields (London, England)

Walking through the streets of London with my husband, on a pleasant fall day. We are on our honeymoon and everyday we would get up and just go explore London, walking all day long. It was such a lovely experience.

One day, it starts to rain lightly and it is near noon time, we see an entrance to a cafe and decide to go in. It was one of *those* days that will stay with me forever. We had gone down to the cafe in St. Martins-in-the-fields. The cafe is located in the crypt of the church and we spent the rest of the day looking at all the names on the crypt stones and talking, musing, wondering about these people. These people who lie beneath the feet of people going about their daily affairs. Popping in for a quick coffee and a pastry....or popping in for a soup and sandwhich. Coming from Canada, this was completely surreal to us.
..and poignant.

Life above, and death beneath.

Places I've been (Part 2).....

Belém (district of Lisbon, Portugal)

Torre de Belém (Belém Tower)

Built in the Age of Discoveries and constructed between 1515-1520.
The tower stood on an island in the middle of the River Tagus until the course of the river was diverted by an earthquake in 1777; the tower had previously survived the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
The tower was a departure point for explorers.
Unfortunately, I've never been in this building and until I started looking for specific information about it for this blog, I didn't even know you could go into it.
Huh.

Padrao dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries)

The Monument to the Discoveries was inaugurated in 1960 during celebrations of the 500 year anniversary of the death of the Infant D. Henrique (Henry the Navigator). It evoques the maritime expansion and is designed in the shape of a caravel, showing Henry the Navigator at the prow holding a small caravel, as well as many relevant heroes of Portuguese history (Vasco da Gama, Pedro Álvares Cabral - discoverer of Brazil - Fernão Magalhães - who crossed the Pacific in1520 -, the writer Camões (called the Portuguese Shakespeare) and many others).

Pasteis de Nata

Across the street from both of these spectacular monuments are *the* best pastries in the entire world. The pastries of Belém are found in a quaint bakery where you can get these pastries, a beautiful glass of Port wine (see the bottles behind the counter) and/or an expresso (uma bica). The pastries come warm and they powder them generously with cinnamon or powdered sugar. This is one of my most favorite spots in the world...and I have officially made myself incredibly hungry. I would teleport there in an instant *right now* if I could!!!!

The only other thing to mention is that the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos (Monastery of Jeronimos) is *right* around the corner. The monks were the original makers of the pastries and their secret has apparently been preserved. I strongly recomment looking into the Monastery, it is incredibly breathtaking. I have offically run out of room for this entry.

I am part of all that I have met;

Yet all experience is an arch wherethro'
Gleams that untravell'd world, whose margin fades
For ever and for ever when I move...

...been thinking more....

Isnt the timing just bizzare?

....it could be the reasons I said below....but I also wonder.....if
you were JonBenet's dad, wouldn't you want your name cleared once and for all?
Now that no one was around to contest what happened that night....such as your
wife.....how much would clearing your name be worth to you?
*IF* this guy gets extradited...and *IF* he gets indicted and *IF* he
gets a light-ish sentence....I would wonder what deal there was in the
background....
Its a win-win....he gets out of Thailand; cops get "their man" once
and for all...and dad gets his name cleared completely...and garners
sympathy in the process.
*shrug*

Just thinking out loud.

JonBenet Ramsey

Wanna know my theory?

I think Karr got busted in Thailand for something.
I wonder if the punishment is death for "it"? Dunno...this is a theory....but jail in Thailand from what i hear, ain't a merry place.
What would be the best way to get out of a Thailand jail?.....extradition.
What would you have to do to warrent enough media attention to be extradited?
Hmmmm....how about become one of the most wanted murders in USA at the moment....his wife did say he had a fascination about JonBenet....
I dont think he did it.
i think he wants out of Thailand.

Thats my armchair hypothesis.

I was going to post a picture of JonBenet....but I can't bear to look at her. Out of respect for her memory.....this is a pictureless post.

Aurora, my Grandmother

June 6, 1925 - August 9, 2006

God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. So He closed his arms around you and whispered come to me.

You didn't deserve what you went through and so He gave you rest. Gods garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.

When I saw you sleeping, so peaceful and free from pain. I could not wish you back, to suffer that again.
